This option is where you choose whether you want a CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD+/-RW or a DVD+/-RW with Lightscribe. You may choose any combination of these according to the choices presented.
The two brands Lite-On and AOpen are offered as they are the most popular brands. The single lightscribe DVD+/-RW is HP as they are not yet widely being produced.
Lightscribe technology is where the HP DVD+/-RW is capable of using a laser to etch or burn in a desired image into the surface of the DVD or CD. You need to have lighscribe capable CDs or DVDs to use this feature.
