Processor (CPU) Type

This option determins what the actual speed and/or capabilities your computer will have. Your brand choice in this category must match what you chose in the System Type category. There are four types of systems currently available from Vanco Computing: Pentium 4, Pentium Dual-Core (Pentium D and Extreme), AMD 64-bit/Dual-Core and AMD FX.

Pentium and AMD have been manufacturing computer processors for years, but AMD was the first one to start making 64-bit edition processors, which has caused it to compete much more agressively with Intel (Pentium 4). AMD 64-bit offers quite a bit of power for prices that are less than your typical Pentium 4, D or Extreme processors.

The Pentium D processor is similar to the Celeron version of the Pentium Extreme CPU. It has less cache, and is therefore a little cheaper, and consequently a little less powerful. The performace differences between the AMD 64-bit dual-core and the PEntium Extreme (dual-core technology) is hard to describe, as AMD has some strengths and the Extreme has others, and they are both quite fast.

Dual core technology essentially allows you to have two processors in the same device. If you are using complicated or resource-hungry software, typically two at a time, you will be able to run both at the same time without causing severe system performace problems or software failure. This technology is for high-end multi-task users.

The AMD FX is rated as the best gaming processor. If you are not concerned with price, and you want the fastest possible computer for gaming, then you want the AMD FX processor.
